Privacy policy

This notice explains what we do with your personal information when you buy from us, contact us or simply browse the site.

Who we are

WipeWave is a trading name of 4 Group South West Limited, and we are the data controller for the information described here. You can write to us at Packaging House, Wilson Way, Redruth, Pool, Cornwall, TR15 3RS, or email info@wipewave.co.uk.

We handle your information in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our use of cookies falls under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

What we collect

When you place an order we ask for your name, delivery and billing address, email address and phone number. Your card details go straight to our payment provider and never reach us. We keep a record of what you bought, when, and where it was sent.

If you email us, call us or use the chat window, we keep that conversation so we can pick up where we left off.

While you browse, our systems log technical details such as your IP address, the pages you open and the device you use. That happens on almost every website and it is how we spot problems and measure whether anything is broken.

Why we use it, and on what basis

Most of it is simply to fulfil your order: taking payment, packing the right blades, handing the parcel to a courier and dealing with any return. That is our contract with you.

We also keep records for accounting and tax, which the law requires of us. Beyond that we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure, preventing fraud and improving what we sell.

Marketing emails are different. Those only go to people who asked for them, and every one of them carries an unsubscribe link. You can also tell us to stop at any time by emailing us.

We do not sell your data. Nobody buys a list of our customers, because there is no list to buy.

Who else sees it

A small number of companies process information on our behalf, and only for the job we give them:

  • Shopify, which runs this shop and stores orders and customer accounts
  • Payment providers, who handle the card or PayPal transaction
  • Couriers, who need the delivery address and usually your phone number or email for the tracking message
  • Our email, review and analytics providers

Some of these companies are based outside the UK. Where that is the case, the transfer is covered by the safeguards the law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

We will also disclose information when the law obliges us to, for example to a court or to HMRC.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website leaves on your device so it can recognise the browser next time. Some are essential: without them the basket forgets what you put in it and you cannot check out. Others measure how the site is used, or support advertising.

The banner you saw on your first visit is where you choose. You can change your mind later through your browser, which lets you see cookies, delete them one by one or block them altogether. Be aware that blocking everything breaks a lot of websites, not just ours.

Instructions for the common browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.

To opt out of behavioural advertising more broadly, the Internet Advertising Bureau runs Your Online Choices.

How long we keep it

Order and payment records stay with us for six years after the end of the tax year they fall in, because that is what tax law expects. Emails and chat transcripts go once they are no longer useful. Marketing consents last until you withdraw them.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. You can object to how we use it, ask us to restrict it, or request it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

Email info@wipewave.co.uk and we will reply within a month. There is no charge.

Bear in mind that some requests have limits. We cannot delete an invoice we are legally required to keep, for instance.

If you are unhappy

Tell us first and we will try to put it right. If that goes nowhere, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Their helpline is 0303 123 1113 and their website is ico.org.uk.
